arl William Isaly was the youngest child of Henrietta and Walter Isaly. Earl was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 25, 1924. Shirley recalls stories told by Gramma Isaly about Earl, he was a good boy who as child did not cause them too many problems. She does, however, recall the story of Bud taking Earl to the second story window in an effort to get him to jump out and see if he could fly. Blessedly Gramma Isaly stumbled across this effort and rescued the 6 year old Earl from what was certain to be his first and final jump!

Earl started working at 15 years old for The Isaly's Ice Cream store in Grandview, Ohio. He met Shirley when he was a senior in High School in English class, she claims it was love at first sight! Earl and Shirley eloped and were married in 1945 shortly before he was shipped off to England.

Earl served his country with The Army Corp of Engineers, and he was seriously injured when a "dud" mortar shell landed in their camp. He was subsequently sent home with a purple heart and an honorable discharge.

By 1948 Earl and Shirley had three adorable children, Tom, Chuck and Patty. He started his civilian life as an insurance salesman with Metropolitan Life, in Columbus, Ohio. His business read "Insure Wisely with Earl Isaly", and his sales pitches included coverage for obscure diseases such as Malaria and Tularemia(????) Met Life took the Isaly family to Houston, Texas where they resided for several years. In the early 50's Earl and Shirley and the children moved back to Columbus where he took a job with Blue Cross.

He later worked for Lennox Industries, and later was co- owner of Metal Flo Industries. He sold Metal Flo and retired in the 1970's. Earl and Shirley moved to Houston where they spent many years enjoying the company of Gramma George, Tom, Jean and Matthew. Before moving to Sarasota they tried the desert (Phoenix) for 2 years, and then made their final move to Sarastoa, Florida in 1992. Earl passed away in their home with his dearly beloved Shirley by his side on July 9, 2004. He was 80 years old.

As dictated by Shirley Isaly, April 10, 2008.
